Like Yvette, Yvonne borrows its meaning from the French and ultimately Germanic word for 'yew'. It is also associated with 'small archer' because the yew tree was used to make long bows. As the feminine form of Yves, the French for John, Yvonne also means 'God has favoured', 'God is gracious' n 'God is merciful'. It has poduced a plethora of variants and is not confined to the French-speaking world.
